Penstemon harbourii (Penstemon)
Plantaginaceae (Plantain Family)
Alpine. Scree. Summer.
It was difficult to get to this beauty stretched out on a steeply sloping scree slope at 12,000 feet. The plant is about two feet in diameter and each flower is nearly an inch long. Leaves are about the length of the flower, light green, and elliptical. Buds are tight, wine-colored cylinders.
Asa Gray named this plant shortly after it was collected by the 1862 Parry, Hall, and Harbour collecting expedition led by Parry.
